October 7, 2021 — Today, The Lincoln Project has released a new ad targeting Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin which will air digitally and in the Richmond and Charlottesville media markets. The spot, titled “Trump or Virginia,” makes plain Trump’s plan to take over governors’ offices across the country ahead of the 2024 election — specifically the certification of the result.
“Glenn Youngkin was hand picked by Donald Trump as part of his 2024 strategy of installing loyal GOP governors and state legislators in positions with power over the electoral certification process,” said Lincoln Project co-founder Reed Galen. “Over the course of his campaign, Youngkin has played Virginians for fools — contorting himself to appease Trump and his base while trying to play the part of a moderate, Romney-type Republican. Virginians are smarter than Youngkin gives them credit for — they rejected Donald Trump in 2016, they rejected him in 2020, and we’re going to make certain they reject him (and Youngkin) again in 2021.”
