What the MAGA-Right is Planning
It’s clear that only one party believes in the survival of our democracy.
That makes next year’s midterms crucial. The MAGA purge of the GOP is nearly complete. We know what we are up against.
Republicans in Washington have made it clear that they’re not interested in governance or helping anyone. They are going to obstruct everything they can. Instead of participating in the democracy we live in, they’re busy working on ways to destroy it.
They’re primarying anyone who voted to impeach Trump and the candidates they’re pushing aren’t interested in working with Democrats. Their only goal is to increase the number of Trump loyalists in the House, giving Trump major leverage if the GOP wins back the House majority.
Here’s Rick’s take: “They will impeach Biden, they will impeach Harris, they will kill everything.”
They have been working at this for years and they have a strategy in place to pull it off.
From the redistricting that has taken place across the country to the rallies Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz have been hosting. They’re recruiting more MAGA candidates and handing out endorsements right alongside Trump.
Meanwhile, the Democrats continue to fight internally. Don’t get me wrong. That fight has always been there. But this is the wrong time to have that fight. What’s at stake is our democracy. Not a $3T bill. If we lose it all in 2022, the authoritarian movement that didn’t want any of it to begin with will stop everything dead in its tracks because we didn’t do everything we could to defend the future.
And the media has this all wrong. They’re talking about party infighting and treating the authoritarian obstructionists as if they’re innocent bystanders in all of this. Like they have no duty to their own constituents. There are not two sides anymore. We’re in a pro-democracy versus anti-democracy fight.
The media has to stop trying to have no opinion. The press needs to take sides. Only one side is actively trying to destroy our democracy. Corporations are giving money to people who are actively trying to rip apart our country. Freedom of the press doesn’t work in autocratic regimes.
We all need to call out fascism when we see it in elections at every level. We have to define our opponents and do it early. We can’t let them hide. And we need to amplify and spread the truth well beyond our own bubbles.
As soon as the new year is here, we’re all going to have to become a very active pro-democracy coalition to save the country. We can’t count on Merrick Garland, the Southern District of New York, or the press corps. We can’t count on anyone else to do the job we have to do.
It’s us. We have to do it.
There are enough of us out there – enough of us that believe that democracy and rights matter and that everyone should have a voice in their future. It’s about defending the future.
This is our moment and this is our fight.
