The MAGA/Trump Shutdown
In eight days, the U.S. government is in all likelihood going to shut down.
There’s no question whose fault it’s going to be. The usual MAGA extremists have taken the weakest Speaker in American history hostage. This is a government shutdown entirely of their own creation.
Even they know it.
Yep, no partisan finger-pointing this time around. The Republicans know exactly what the public is going to think when the MAGA-run House shuts down.
There have been no bipartisan funding talks. No negotiation. It’s just a paralyzed Speaker struggling to cater to the outlandish demands of his hostage-taking caucus. For Democrats, the messaging writes itself.
The GOP wants painful cuts to life-saving social services, to end our support in Ukraine, and to advance outlandish far-right policy priorities. We don’t need to shine a big spotlight on their crazy – Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and the MAGA caucus are doing that job for us.
All we need to do is continue to highlight President Biden’s accomplishments and develop the contrast that is going to reach the voters.
Imagine this scenario. A swing voter is watching media coverage of the government shutdown. They know who runs the House. They know who to blame. Then, on a commercial break, American Story comes on the television. The chaos of the MAGA House is immediately contrasted with the success of President Biden’s leadership.
That’s going to resonate with them. And even though Election Day is over a year away, it’s going to start the conversation about why President Biden deserves another term.
