THE LINCOLN PROJECT’S STATEMENT ON LAST NIGHT’S GOP PRIMARIES
August 3, 2022 — The Lincoln Project released the following statement on last night’s primaries:
“Last night once again proves that MAGA controls the Republican Party. These candidates should frighten every American who loves democracy and wants to see a functioning government.
“They exemplify today’s authoritarian and election-denying, ultra-MAGA GOP that desires the consolidation of power and wants to purge the government of anyone who does not bow to their ideology. It is time for Americans to stand up and vote for candidates who will provide free and fair elections while respecting the rule of law.”
Arizona
Blake Masters
“Blake Masters is a lapdog for a billionaire tech executive who believes that democracy is played out. He is praised by white supremacists for waging a perverse culture war to set women back decades and for pushing the racist “great replacement theory”. Blake Masters shouldn’t be trusted to run a banana stand, never mind allowed into the United States Senate. He is an existential threat to democracy and must be defeated this November.”
Mark Finchem
“Mark Finchem is the worst candidate in the history of Arizona politics. He believes in the “Big Lie” and wants to re-litigate the 2020 election. If elected, Finchem will destroy any confidence that Arizona could have a fair and free election in 2024. He is a Trump acolyte who will do everything in his considerable power to ensure a Donald Trump victory in 2024. He cannot be trusted to run an election and must be defeated.”
Michigan
Tudor Dixon
“Tudor Dixon is another Donald Trump crony who refuses to acknowledge that Donald Trump lost the election and questions whether the election was run correctly. She cannot be counted on to run a fair election in 2024. Any voter in Michigan who supports free and fair elections must do all they can to ensure Dixon loses in November.”
Missouri
Eric Schmitt
“One of the two Eric’s that Donald Trump couldn’t decide between. As Attorney General, Schmitt helped lead the charge to overthrow the 2020 election by joining Texas in a lawsuit to convince the Supreme Court to intervene. He has sued counties, cities, China and school districts to fight a culture war that raises his profile among conservatives. He’s no moderate and cannot be trusted to certify any election that does not declare Donald Trump president in 2024.”
