THE LINCOLN PROJECT STATEMENT ON THE ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE RUSSIAN INVASION OF UKRAINE
February 24, 2023 — The Lincoln Project releases the following statement on the one year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine:
“The story of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine is not about Vladimir Putin’s naked aggression, but the astounding spirit and determination of the Ukrainian people.
“Putin believed he could easily capture Ukraine and destroy its culture, but instead his armies ran headlong into a country fighting for its homeland, its way of life, and democracy. The Ukrainian people’s bravery and sacrifices inspire anyone who stands up for individual rights and universal sovereignty.
“Ukraine is the front line of a struggle against totalitarianism and extremism that is undermining democratic institutions around the world. If democracy is to persevere, then the world must continue to assist Ukraine in its fight for survival. All Americans should find inspiration from the Ukrainian people and commit themselves to safeguarding our own democratic institutions.”
The Lincoln Project is a leading pro-democracy organization in the United States — dedicated to the preservation, protection, and defense of democracy.
