THE LINCOLN PROJECT STATEMENT ON INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY
January 27, 2023 — The Lincoln Project released the following statement regarding every American’s responsibility on International Holocaust Remembrance Day:
“We must never forget the victims of the Holocaust and the suffering they endured. Only by confronting its terrible inhumanity can we prevent another Holocaust from happening again.
“International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a sober reminder of the implications of unchecked authoritarianism and the quest for raw power. The sad and frightening reality is that while we believe such events are in the distant past, they are never truly that far behind.
“In our own nation, antisemitism is on the rise. It’s emerging from the shadows and invading the public dialogue. Mainstream political candidates are embracing the language of antisemitism and its racist tropes attacking Jewish people in order to score political points.
“Many of us believe it can never happen here, but our democratic institutions are only as strong as the vigilance of the American public. Every American must remain strong and vocal about where they stand. Silence only enables those who wish to impose hate.”
The Lincoln Project is a leading pro-democracy organization in the United States — dedicated to the preservation, protection, and defense of democracy.
