April 25, 2023 – The Lincoln Project releases the following statement on President Joe Biden announcing for re-election:

“President Joe Biden brought honor, decency, and competency back to the White House. Two successful years in office confirm he is the best choice to lead the nation. The Lincoln Project was proud to be part of the coalition that elected President Biden in 2020, and we stand with him again as he seeks re-election.

“At this moment, the future of American democracy stands on a precipice. Authoritarianism increasingly defines Donald Trump’s party, and threatens freedom at home and abroad. Here at home, the Republican Party as we knew it no longer exists. It’s been replaced by a cult of personality dedicated to the whims of Donald Trump and populated by extremists driven by cruelty, celebrity, and a lust for raw power.”

“Every American has a choice to make. Do they support our democratic traditions of our constitutional republic, or will they choose extremism, hate, and intolerance by electing a totalitarian MAGA candidate?”

“We ask republicans and independents who believe in democracy to once again put patriotism over party: Join us and support Joe Biden. President Biden is the only candidate who can be counted on to continue our 246 year old democracy. The future MAGA promises isn’t one of freedom, liberty, or democracy.”
