COMMEMORATING THE LIFE OF REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
January 16, 2023 — The Lincoln Project released the following statement to commemorate the life and legacy of Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr.:
“Dr. King’s bravery and self sacrifice make him an inspiration for people around the globe. His actions during the civil rights movement challenged every American to confront this nation’s terrible racial attitudes and undemocratic governance. In doing so, he changed the trajectory of the nation.
“Yet his vision of a nation where everyone is treated as equals remains unattained. There are renewed efforts to destroy the gains made on behalf of civil rights over the last 70 years. Every American must challenge those who wish to turn back the clock to a time when racial bias was enshrined in law.
“Only by supporting Dr. King’s legacy, can our nation finally build a stronger, more democratic society that lives up to the unfulfilled ideals of its foundation.”
