JANUARY 6th COMMITTEE HEARING

TAKEAWAYS FOR JUNE 13th

The Lincoln Project released the following takeaways from the January 6th Committee Hearing that took place June 13th:

  • After two hearings, the January 6th Committee has clearly demonstrated that Donald Trump himself orchestrated and promoted the plot to overthrow the lawful results of the election. He did so to hold power and to profit off credulous MAGA donors who believed he was using $250 million of their donations to “fight election fraud”.

  • Instead of listening to campaign professionals, Trump depended on the flawed legal theories and lurid conspiracies of John Eastman, Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, and Peter Navarro.

  • Rudy Giuliani was humiliated by his erstwhile Trump-world allies today, with stories of his obvious state of intoxication on the night of the election. Nevertheless, Trump still relied on three-sheets-to-the-wind Rudy over campaign professionals.

  • Bill Stepien and the rest of the campaign team were not part of “team normal”. There was nothing normal about Trump’s presidency, the aftermath, or the people who ever believed in him or did his bidding. Normal people do not try to overthrow their government or work for someone who would. Normal people would have spoken out at the time, not after a Congressional subpoena nearly two years later.

  • Trump weaponized the fact there would be a “red mirage” of early vote counts showing him winning to sow doubt on the entire process. He knew ahead of time he would probably lose the election and used this “red mirage” as the foundation of the “Big Lie”, and it culminated in his supporters attacking the Capitol.

  • Attorney General Bill Barr destroyed the “Big Lie” and laughed at the claims being pushed by the Administration. His investigators found no ballot harvesting, no illegal votes being cast, and no votes being illegally counted. The Administration’s post-election push was the result of a drunk Rudy Guiliani playing to Donald Trump’s increasingly unstable mind.

  • Fox News was finally forced to carry the hearings live because it became too big for them to ignore. By not carrying the hearings live, Fox risked having their viewers find out elsewhere that the election was not stolen and that the network helped Trump drive his supporters into a frenzy that resulted in violence and sedition at the Capitol.

  • Today was further proof that Kevin McCarthy is not a true believer in Donald Trump as President. He went to the White House before the election to try to convince Trump that mail in voting was safe. This comes after we hear on tape that Kevin thinks Trump was responsible for January 6th and should resign. How much longer before Trump throws McCarthy overboard?

  • Elise Stefanik wants to be Speaker of the House, while Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton, and Mike Pompeo all want to be President. Will they continue to hold Trump’s hand as more criminal revelations come, or will they finally use this as an opportunity to break-up with Trump?

  • Do GOP candidates Doug Mastriano and Mehmet Oz both agree the election in Pennsylvania was stolen and Trump was right all along? Or do they see things differently after all of the revelations – and knowing that more are to come?

  • The nation is at one of the most dangerous moments in its history. These revelations will not change the true MAGA believers mind but will cause them to double and triple down on the Big Lie – making them more dangerous and perhaps more violent. Every single American needs to decide if they are the side of the seditionists who tried to tear down a free and fair election, or do they support our Republic and its democratic principles?
