The Lincoln Project Kicks Off With Ohio-Centered ‘Mourning in America’
WASHINGTON, DC US, July 17, 2020 – The Lincoln Project today announced the launch of “Operation Grant”, a joint effort focused on Ohio with fellow disaffected Republicans, Republican Voters Against Trump (RVAT).
Operation Grant launches this week with a paid advertising campaign featuring the re-release of The Lincoln Project’s viral ad “Mourning in America”, which has been reworked to highlight the pain Trump has caused the Buckeye State. It will also include a grassroots guerrilla campaign with the goal of delivering Ohio’s 18 electoral votes to Joe Biden.
“Ohio presents a unique opportunity when it comes to working to remove Trump from office, because he needs the state to have any chance at reelection.” said Tim Miller, Political Director for RVAT. “While the state voted for Trump in 2016, they’ve since experienced incredible suffering at the hands of his administration. Ohio is softening on Trump and we intend to help deliver it to Biden.”
Lincoln Project co-founder John Weaver, who previously worked with former Ohio Governor John Kasich, said, “Ohioans are wise people, and they know that President Trump isn’t living up to his oath. Like the rest of the country, Ohio deserves responsible, intelligent leadership, which can only be achieved by removing Trump from office on November 4th.”
The original “Mourning in America” spot contrasts Ronald Reagan’s 1984 iconic and optimistic political ad “Morning in America” with the devastation and inept response brought on by the Trump presidency. The newly released version highlights the pain felt by Ohio in particular.
