“Polls Don’t Vote, People Do.”
Last Tuesday, voters went to the polls and the result didn’t surprise me one bit. They voted for democracy and they rejected MAGA extremism.
I know the news cycle moves fast. I know the media will be doomcasting about whatever poll shows Trump winning again. But I don’t want you to forget the fact that voters keep rejecting MAGA.
It’s easy to get caught up in negative polling headlines or quotes from political operatives seeking attention. But the facts remain the same. Biden won the White House in 2020, he turned the red wave into a red mirage in 2022, and his party just had an exceptional election year in 2023.
Even after three consecutive successful elections, I know the media isn’t going to put their Biden narratives to bed. So here’s my question: where are the stories about Trump’s electoral weakness? Biden has wiped the floor with him year after year.
In my lifetime, I can’t think of a President with a worse electoral record who hasn’t been booted out of contention by his own party. The difference now? Well, the GOP is no longer a functioning party. It’s a cult.
Luckily, if there’s one truth about the political moment, it’s that with the right message, voters will turn out and vote against Trump and whatever candidates he supports.
This has never surprised me. When you wage a war on democracy and basic rights, voters will reject you. No matter what the polls say.
There’s still a ton of work to do, though.
What I’m saying is that in my decades of experience working in politics, I know when a message sticks. Democracy is sticking. MAGA coming for our rights is sticking. And right now, we have the potential to build a diverse pro-democracy coalition that will beat MAGA. We’ve already done it three elections in a row!
It just requires the right message.
