December 7, 2022 — The Lincoln Project releases the following statement on President Volodymyr Zelensky & the ‘Spirit of Ukraine’ being named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year:

“President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people are the perfect choices for this year’s Person of the Year. President Zelensky is the literal and spiritual embodiment of the democratic movement. He continues to show extraordinary leadership in the fight against the destruction of the Ukrainian nation and Ukrainian culture. The bravery shown by all Ukrainians to repel the Russian forces gives hope to everyone in the world who values freedom and self-determination.

“Ukraine is the front line of a war against totalitarianism that threatens to sweep around the globe. Its fight for survival is critical if we are to preserve and protect democracy. Let all Americans be inspired by the sacrifices of the Ukrainian people and renew our commitment to our own democratic institutions here in the United States.”
