Iowa deserves a leader, not a follower.
October 13, 2020 — As Iowa Senator and Trump lackey Joni Ernst prepares to debate Democratic challenger Theresa Greenfield on Wednesday, The Lincoln Project is reminding voters of the numerous ways she’s let Iowans down in a new spot, “Real,” debuting today.
The ad calls into question Senator Ernst’s response to trade issues that have bankrupted Iowa farmers, her deafening silence in the face of the White House’s bungled response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ways in which she falls in line with Mitch McConnell instead of putting Iowa’s needs above party politics.
“Joni Ernst has failed Iowa time and again. She’s yet another Republican who’s put party over country and her constituents have suffered as a result,” said Reed Galen, co-founder of The Lincoln Project. “Luckily, Iowans have the power to fight back. On November 3rd, they can choose honest, thoughtful leadership by casting their vote for Theresa Greenfield.”
With the two set to debate this Wednesday, October 15th, Iowans will have the opportunity to see that Senator Ernst has accomplished nothing other than falling in line as a “yes-woman” for the Trump administration. As a result, nearly 1,500 Iowans have died of COVID-19, Iowa farmers are suffering losses and bankruptcies left and right, and both the state and nation are no closer to having a solution. It’s clearly time for a change of plan and leadership.
