How Will History Remember January 6th?

Yesterday was the two year anniversary of January 6th. Two years ago yesterday, then-President Trump and his fellow MAGA arsonists attempted to overturn a democratic election and incite a murderous insurrection on our capitol.

That is a fact. And the January 6th Committee has thoroughly proven that the capitol insurrection was a carefully orchestrated plan that stretched into our highest levels of government.

But the question still remains, how will history remember January 6th?

Look around. The fight is not over. The battle for truth and democracy is being waged in Congress right now, and the result will determine the answer to that question. As we remember the lives lost and the heroic actions of Americans who helped protect our capitol, ultra-MAGA lauds the insurrectionists as the true heroes. They use doublespeak to convince large swaths of our country that the 2020 Election was stolen.

And this is not a small fraction of our in Congress.

Just look at what’s going on in the House. The 118th Congress will be the most chaotic in history because Republicans have completely cowed to the most ardent members of the ultra-MAGA right. Matt Gaetz, Lauren Beobert, and their co-conspirators have successfully held a gun to Kevin McCarthy’s head. Now they can do whatever they want.

Trippi always says that the GOP is split into two groups of hostages and hostage-takers. Well, now the hostage-takers have won the battle. And for the next two years, they will own a majority in the House of Representatives – with no interest whatsoever in governing.

We will continue to fight them over the next two years. Their chaos and instability will surely prove to the American people how deeply unfit they are to govern. That will present us with an opportunity to defeat them.

As the leading pro-democracy organization in this country, we have the experience and the plan to thoroughly defeat the ultra-MAGA right.

This past election cycle, we defied historical expectations and won 17 of our 22 target races, and we made the race for the House far closer than previously thought possible. It came down to roughly 3,000 votes in five seats. Yes, the fight for democracy truly is that close.

We accomplished this by mobilizing tens of thousands of voters in key districts with The Union and our ads received millions of impressions in key swing states. We will do this again over the next two years. And if need be, we will do it again in every following election until ultra-MAGA is thoroughly defeated.

Remember the January 6th Insurrection. Think about how you felt when Trump incited the mob to storm the gates of our democracy. Then remember that the insurrection is not over. And know that we face a choice as to how history will remember January 6th, 2021.

For the sake of everyone who was impacted by January 6th. For the sake of our democracy. For the sake of the future of our country. Dedicate yourself to this fight.
