Democracy Under Siege in Wisconsin
We hope you had a restful Labor Day weekend and took some time to recharge for the pro-democracy fight. Now that you’re back, we want to make sure you’re aware of a news story we’ve got our eye on.
It’s happening in Wisconsin. A state overrun with MAGA extremists and election conspiracy theorists. It also happens to be one of the states that could decide the fate of our democracy in 2024.
That’s why stories like this matter >>
Scary headline, right? Dig a little further and you can get a real sense of how big the stakes are here. Here’s what you need to know:
- MAGA Republicans are trying to fire their elections chief. Meagan Wolfe, the administrator of the nonpartisan election commission, is being targeted because she had the gall to tell Trump and the My Pillow Guy that their election fraud claims were complete BS. Now, Trump and his MAGA minions in the state legislature want to install a loyalist to rubber stamp their presumptive coup in 2024.
- Wisconsin Republicans have no power to fire her. Despite what the MAGA lunatics think, they can’t get rid of her. And this case is now presumably going to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Yes, the same court that Democrats fought so hard to elect Justice Janet Protasiewicz and take the 4-3 majority. But that’s still not the end of the story.
- MAGA Republicans are plotting to impeach Protasiewicz. This next step shouldn’t surprise you. They’re attempting a power grab that completely undermines the voters of their state, who voted overwhelmingly to elect Justice Protasiewicz into office.
If this story disturbed you, good. It should. Now be loud about it. Tell your friends and your neighbors. If you live in Wisconsin, make sure you attend a protest. And if there isn’t one happening in your community, organize one.
Democracy will win in 2024 as long as we continue to expose the anti-democratic corruption from Trump and his MAGA disciples. We helped pro-democracy forces win Wisconsin in 2022 and we’re back in the fight for 2024. Can you pitch in today to support our work?
