America Won, Democracy Won, But the Fight Continues
The image of President Biden standing in Kyiv with President Zelenskyy says it all.
Joe Biden took a covert trip into an active war zone where American troops were not in theater. True courage. And it sent a clear message.
He stood where Putin thought he’d be having a victory parade a year ago.
He stood where Donald Trump would have been trying to negotiate a hotel lease with Putin after helping him win. (Or expanding Ivanka’s jewelry line, who knows?)
He stood not far from a banner that courageous Ukrainians flew in the face of Russian aggression a decade prior declaring “freedom is our religion.”
Joe Biden standing in Kyiv means democracy is winning this fight.
This was the strongest possible message to an autocrat who thought it would be easy to smash the West’s resolve. Can you imagine what it’s like inside the Kremlin right now? Probably similar to Mar-a-lago, actually.
Yesterday, democracy won. In 2024, America will have to fight for democracy again.
