But it’s not what Americans wanted to hear

June 22, 2020 – Today, The Lincoln Project released an ad thanking Donald Trump for his recent confession in Tulsa, Oklahoma that he ordered his administration to slow testing for Covid-19.

“After more than 19,000 misleading statements during his presidency, Trump finally told Americans the truth,” said Lincoln Project co-Founder Reed Galen. “This president has completely collapsed in the face of lost lives, shattered families, and tens of millions of lost jobs. Slowing testing, and putting more American lives at risk, is exactly the kind of act only Donald Trump would order. It’s never been about us, it’s always been about him. Come November, we’ll remind the president who’s in charge.”

During Trump’s poorly-attended rally in Tulsa, Trump admitted what Americans across the country feared: that he commanded public health experts to impede COVID-19 testing for personal, political advantage. As it stands, 122,000 American lives have been lost and the virus is surging in many of the states President Trump coerced into hasty re-openings. The President’s admission makes it clear that he would rather risk American lives to assuage his own ego than do his job.

The Lincoln Project is a group of prominent Republicans and former Republicans working to defeat the re-election of Donald J. Trump and those who support him.
